Fish Mayonnaise Good for Two Easy Under 20 Minutes

Salmon mayo is a quick and satisfying Japanese-style dish that’s perfect for weeknights or when you want a flavor-packed meal without much fuss.

It’s inspired by ebi mayo, a popular Japanese dish made with crispy fried shrimp tossed in a creamy, sweet-savory sauce. But in this version, we’re swapping shrimp for salmon, making it a great option for those avoiding shellfish while still delivering all the creamy, indulgent flavor.

This recipe is perfect for salmon lovers. The fillets are cut into bite-sized pieces, lightly seasoned, then coated in cornstarch and deep-fried to crispy perfection. The contrast between the crispy outside and juicy, tender inside is what makes this dish so addictive.

Meanwhile, the sauce comes together in just a few minutes using everyday Japanese pantry staples: mayonnaise (preferably Japanese-style like Kewpie), ketchup, milk, honey, and a splash of white vinegar. The result? A creamy, tangy, slightly sweet sauce that clings beautifully to each crispy bite of salmon.

If you’re already a fan of salmon dishes, be sure to try out our other favorites like salmon teriyaki recipe, the crispy salmon katsu sandwich, or our light and elegant kombu salmon rolls. Each one highlights salmon in a unique and flavorful way.

If you’re in the mood to experiment, this recipe is also super easy to customize. Want to add a bit of heat? Stir some sriracha or chilli oil into the sauce to make a spicy mayo version that really kicks things up a notch. Craving deeper, savory flavors? Add a spoonful of miso paste for an umami-rich twist that balances beautifully with the sweetness of the honey and ketchup.

Perfect for busy weeknights when you want something tasty with minimal effort, this dish is also impressive enough to serve to guests. The ingredients are easy to find, the steps are simple, and the results are reliably delicious. Whether you’re new to cooking or just need a dependable go-to, salmon mayo is a must-try!
